Project Erasmus+ KA171

KA171 is an action under the Erasmus+ program that provides funding for mobility between European higher education institutions and universities located in non-associated third countries (NATCs).

This initiative supports exchanges to help strengthen international partnerships, promote the internationalization of academic programs at participating institutions, and contribute to the intercultural development of beneficiaries.

The types of mobility funded are as follows:

  • Student mobility (exchange semester, dual degree, or laboratory experience)
  • Faculty and researcher mobility
  • Administrative staff mobility

ENSTA & KPI

Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, ENSTA (F PARIS080) has strengthened its cooperation with its partner, the National Technical University of Ukraine – Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI), thanks to the KA171 grant, which enables it to support student and staff mobility in these challenging times.

Coordinated by ENSTA since 2023, this KA171 project is part of the long-standing international cooperation between ENSTA and KPI.

Thanks to this European project, ENSTA is able to:

  • Strengthen cooperation between France and Ukraine in education and research to forge lasting ties that contribute to shared development;
  • Facilitate student and staff mobility, with a particular focus on those with fewer opportunities, to enable them to access high-quality education under favorable conditions;
  • Promote the fundamental values of the European Union.

The partnership between ENSTA and KPI was initiated by the signing of an initial agreement in 2015, renewed in 2021, and again in September 2025. This decade-long cooperation led to the graduation of the first ENSTA-KPI student in 2018, as part of a degree-granting mobility program funded by the KA107 program.

Starting in 2023, and in particular thanks to the KA171 grant, this partnership has been strengthened with the hosting at ENSTA of nearly 10 students and several members of the administrative and faculty staff, including faculty in the fields of Applied Mathematics and computer science, the Vice Rector for International Relations, and the Rector of KPI.

Staff Mobility

Staff mobility is essential for enabling KPI to maintain and strengthen its academic, educational, and institutional standing in Ukraine, as well as on the international stage.

As part of the Erasmus+ KA171 project, cooperation and development between our institutions have been strengthened at various levels:

Scientific level: The mobility initiatives carried out have enabled the development of joint collaborations aimed at preparing joint applications for international calls for proposals.

This cooperation also enabled Professor Antoine MANZANERA of ENSTA to join the editorial board of the scientific journal KPI Science News.

Educational level: Mobility has fostered exchanges between faculty members and program directors, enabling the analysis and comparison of best educational practices. In particular, these exchanges have helped identify the challenges faced by KPI students at ENSTA. These exchanges were crucial for adapting KPI’s programs and facilitating the integration of future Ukrainian students into ENSTA, whether for a semester, an academic year, or a degree program.

Staff mobility has also enabled faculty members to teach in-person seminars. For example, the Advanced Multimedia module, taught at ENSTA by Dr. Sulema of KPI, introduced students to a complementary topic not covered in ENSTA’s regular curriculum.

Institutional level: Staff mobility has contributed to strategic exchanges aimed at ensuring the continuity and strengthening of institutional cooperation between KPI and ENSTA. These discussions focused in particular on the continuity of academic mobility programs and the preparation of new collaborative projects.
