Mechanical Science and Engineering

The Mechanics Department brings together teams from three research laboratories (IMSIA, IRDL, LMI), including two CNRS joint research units, on the ENSTA campuses in Brest and Paris-Saclay.

The Mechanics Department provides training in theoretical, numerical, and experimental mechanics as part of the School's programs and associated master's degrees.

The research conducted combines characterization, modeling, and simulation in structural, fluid, and materials mechanics, extending to multiphysics couplings, leveraging original approaches supported by state-of-the-art equipment.

Driven by strong momentum, the projects cover the School's major areas of expertise and aim to address scientific, industrial, and societal challenges.

There are numerous academic and industrial partnerships, through joint laboratories and chairs, European (ERC) and national (ANR, ADEME, DGA, research groups) projects, and within the interdisciplinary centers of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.
