Foyer des élèves (Foy'z)

Brest Culture & Leisure

A must-visit spot for student life on ENSTA’s Brest campus, the student lounge—nicknamed “Le Foy’z”—is run by students.
It’s a place where students gather during the day to play pool or foosball, grab a coffee, and relax on the big sofas, as well as at night for the many themed parties held there

The Foy'z is a friendly place where everyone is welcome. Respect for the space and for others is essential, and the entire team is there to ensure that happens. More than just the venue for memorable orientation parties, it quickly becomes the best place to share good times with friends. You can have fun, chat, play pool or foosball, or simply relax in front of a good movie on Sunday evenings. And all of this just a few steps from your RDE dorm room!

Foy'z Main Opening Hours

Foy'z is open at various times throughout the day (between 8:00 AM and midnight). Hours vary from day to day since the students who run the Foy'z (the Foy'z men/women) need to be free from classes and available. It is generally open during the lunch break (many students come for tea or coffee at noon) and in the late afternoon after classes, as well as on Thursday afternoons.

The Foy'z men/women

The Foy'z men/women are in charge of managing the space: opening the venue, running activities during the day and in the evening, as well as managing inventory, cleanliness, and security. The mixed team consists of about twenty students and engineering apprentices in their second and third years. They commit to serving for one to two years.

Those who decide to join the Foy'z are motivated to actively participate in student life. They have spent time at the Foy'z and have gotten to know the previous team. They must apply individually to demonstrate their motivation (this is not a professional-style application like for an internship; they must show creativity). Applications generally take place in March/April after the BDE elections.

Once the new team is formed, a training weekend—usually held in late April—facilitates the transition.

One night: one theme

Every Tuesday and Friday, small tournaments are organized. These evenings are especially popular at the beginning of the year because they provide a great opportunity for new students to meet upperclassmen.

Wednesday evenings are dedicated to themed parties: casino night, jam sessions in partnership with the music club, blind tests, pool tournaments, etc. It is also on Wednesdays that the “terroir”* evenings take place.

Thursday evenings are reserved for events organized by the school’s associations and clubs. For these events, the Foy’z is cleared of its furniture to accommodate as many people as possible and allow everyone to dance. Each of these events has a fun, specific theme and encourages students to come in costume: construction site, sea and navy, Wall Street, Halloween, Christmas, redneck, and car tuning... .

An event can bring together up to 250 people (for the largest orientation events).

*During regional theme nights (organized by the BDE’s regional affairs coordinator), meals are served: hot dogs, a Breton night with crêpes and galettes, a Texan night with chili con carne, a regional night during which students introduce specialties from their region...
