Schoolgirls today, engineers tomorrow

Institute, Student Life

On Thursday, March 19, nearly 100 high school girls from three schools in Finistère were welcomed to the ENSTA Brest campus as part of the event “100 Women, 100 Careers: Engineers Tomorrow.” The afternoon’s program included a tour of the campus and numerous workshops designed to help the high school students discover the diverse backgrounds of ENSTA engineering students and their many areas of expertise: pyrotechnics, robotics, naval architecture, computer science...

15th edition: a long-term commitment

Led by the UIMM of Finistère, this annual event aims to contribute to increasing the number of women in the professions. The initiative is coordinated with four major engineering schools based in Brest: ENSTA, IMT Atlantique, ISEN Ouest, and Bretagne INP ENIB.

In 2026, 11 public and private high schools participated, bringing together more than 250 female students in their sophomore and junior years.

At ENSTA’s Brest campus, a wide range of workshops was offered

Following a brief presentation of ENSTA, the “100 Women, 100 Careers: Tomorrow’s Engineers” initiative, and the various pathways to engineering studies, the nearly 100 high school girls present at ENSTA were able to participate in workshops.

The afternoon program was organized by the Ingéni’elles association in partnership with numerous clubs and associations:

  • Robotics Club: Presentation of robots and various projects carried out in both school and extracurricular settings
  • ENSTA Sailing Team Association: Hands-on workshop on naval architecture and theoretical methods for calculating a ship’s stability
  • Info Club: Presentation of various computational methods for calculating Pi
  • ENST’EIN Club: Presentation of image segmentation algorithms
  • ENST’Artifice Club: Presentation and demonstrations on pyrotechnics and fireworks
  • Dron’ENSTA: Experiments on drone simulators and demonstrations of mini-drones
  • Eloquentia & ENSTA Drama: Workshop on public speaking, various games.

The afternoon gave the high school students and their teachers a fun opportunity to explore the various scientific fields taught at ENSTA, as well as to discover different areas of the campus (lecture hall, stadium, classrooms, robotics lab, media library, etc.) to help them envision themselves pursuing these studies in the future. The event concluded with a discussion session in the student lounge.

ENSTA would like to thank UIMM 29 for organizing this event, the Ingéni’elles association for coordinating the various workshops, as well as all the students from the clubs involved during the afternoon and all the tour guides.
