Our Mission

From the Royal Navy to disruptive technologies, ENSTA draws on nearly three centuries of history to train visionary engineers. Anchored in the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, it prepares its graduates to design innovative and sustainable solutions to the major challenges of our time.

Our mission

Since 1741, ENSTA has been educating daring and creative men and women, for a safe and sustainable society.

It’s scientific and technical excellence illuminates and shapes transformation in keys areas – Transport and Mobility, Energy, Defense and Security, Maritime, Digital Sciences, Engineering for Health.

ENSTA trains engineers committed to the future generations and to finding new, effective, and responsible solutions through research and innovation

Leading Science and Technology since 1741.

Missions focused on complex systems and innovation

ENSTA's mission is to train engineers with a solid scientific background and a high degree of adaptability, capable of developing and managing complex industrial systems. These skills have become essential in a world marked by the interconnection of disciplines, the rise of digital technology, and the necessary transition to more sustainable models.

The Graduate school is therefore committed to providing its students with rigorous theoretical knowledge, as well as the ability to design practical, innovative, and responsible solutions. It draws on high-level research to shed light on the major scientific, technical, and societal challenges of today. This dual vocation—educational and scientific—places ENSTA at the heart of dynamic ecosystems in the Paris region and western Brittany, at the interface between industry and academia.

By cultivating multidisciplinarity and encouraging experimentation, it prepares its graduates to meet the challenges of tomorrow in high-impact sectors.

A bold vision to transform the future

True to its pioneering spirit, ENSTA positions itself as a true catalyst for innovation and progress. It intends to play a leading role in the major industrial transformations that lie ahead by developing disruptive technologies.

Its vision is not limited to technical performance: it is rooted in a strong societal ambition to contribute to national sovereignty in strategic areas such as defense, transportation, energy, maritime, digital, and health. These sectors, which are essential to the balance and resilience of our society, face major challenges—whether environmental, geopolitical, or technological—to which the school intends to respond with rigor, creativity, and responsibility.

ENSTA thus aspires to train engineers who are aware of their role and capable of taking concrete action for a sustainable future, mobilizing science, technology, and ethics in the service of the common good.
