Travel abroad

At ENSTA, an international stay of at least one semester is a requirement for graduation and is an integral part of the engineering program. The duration of this semester varies depending on the type of program, whether it is initial training or an apprenticeship.

There are many opportunities for mobility!

You can substitute a semester or the third year of your program, or even do internships abroad. A gap year abroad, outside of the program, is also possible, whether in a company, laboratory, or academic institution.

This international experience is particularly appreciated by our engineering students. It represents a unique opportunity to acquire the international skills essential for tomorrow's engineers, to discover a new country, a different culture, and other ways of working, while continuing to learn in a different environment.

In addition, substituting the third year allows students to obtain a double degree. In January 2025, we will have nearly 120 double degree students at the most prestigious scientific universities (Politecnico di Milano, Polytechnique Montréal, KTH, DTU, NUS, etc.)!

Why an international experience?

In a context of strong internationalization and evolution in the engineering professions, an international experience is essential for ENSTA engineers to be able to:

  • Develop their ability to adapt and demonstrate it in an intercultural context
  • Perfect their command of one or more foreign languages and discover other cultures
  • Complement their ENSTA curriculum with high-level academic training or international professional experience
  • Gain a competitive advantage over other candidates for doctoral programs, internships, jobs, etc.

Personalized support

The International Relations Department provides you with all the information you need to build your international mobility project: advice on choosing a destination, assistance with putting together your application, practical information on life in the host country, and information on available external scholarships.

It also manages several mobility funding schemes, including the Erasmus+ program, as well as international mobility assistance for students receiving means-tested grants (CROUS) and other assistance related to the Brafitec, Arfitec, and other programs.

ENSTA students benefit from personalized support before, during, and after their international experience:

  • The International Relations Department, in conjunction with the Training and Research Department, supports students in choosing a suitable program and assists them in selecting and validating courses.
  • The Corporate Relations Department and the school's faculty members facilitate connections between engineering students and preferred partners for internships at international institutions or companies. Each student completing an international internship is monitored by a faculty advisor who acts as a mentor throughout the experience.
