Board of Directors

The ENSTA Board of Directors plays an essential role in the governance of the Institute. It defines the ENSTA major orientations in terms of training, research, scientific and technical information policy, and international cooperation. As a truly strategic body, it deliberates on the main decisions related to the management of the institution and, in particular, approves the tuition regulations.

It may also be consulted on any issue by its president or by the supervisory authority. Among its tasks, the board examines and adopts the ENSTA budget, as well as any amendments thereto and the annual financial statement. It approves equity investments, the creation of subsidiaries, the acceptance of donations or bequests, and may rule on debt forgiveness.

It also decides on lease agreements, acquisitions, exchanges, or transfers of real estate, and determines the agreements, contracts, and markets requiring its approval. It also has the authority to authorize legal action, engage in various transactions, and implement measures to promote the professional integration of graduates.

In academic matters, the board issues an opinion on the general conditions for the admission of students, auditors, trainees, and participants in postgraduate or specialized training programs. It also rules on general schooling arrangements, the conditions for awarding diplomas and certificates, and the Institute's internal regulations, the latter coming into force after approval by the Minister of the Armed Forces. It is consulted on the appointment of the Director of Training and Research, as well as on the rules governing contractual recruitment within the institution.

Each year, the Board of Directors submits a detailed report on the ENSTA activities and operations to the Minister of the Armed Forces. It meets at least twice a year, when convened by its chair, and may be convened at the request of half of its members or the supervisory authority.

Training Council

The Training Council participates in an advisory capacity in the governance of ENSTA for academic matters:

• It is consulted on issues relating to training in its various aspects, in particular on programs and teaching volumes, teaching methods, knowledge assessment, study certification, and links between teaching and research.
• It gives its opinion on the ENSTA tuition regulations, which become enforceable after approval by the Board of Directors.
• It is consulted on all appointments of teaching staff in their main occupation and on the general management of teaching staff in their secondary occupation.
• It gives its opinion on any matter submitted to it by the General Director.
• It meets at least twice a year when convened by its chair. It also meets when convened by its chair if at least half of its members so request.

Research Council

The Research Council participates in an advisory capacity in the governance of ENSTA for research activities:

• It is consulted on the general direction of research, the resources to be allocated to it, the creation or closure of laboratories, the relationships to be established with national, foreign, or international scientific circles, the participation of laboratory staff in teaching, and applications for accreditation to award national postgraduate degrees.
• It reviews the annual report on the research activities of the laboratories and actions to promote and disseminate scientific and technical culture.
• It gives its opinion on any question submitted to it by the Director General.
• It meets at least twice a year when convened by its chair. It also meets when convened by its chair if at least half of its members request it.

Guidance and Development Council

The Guidance and Development Council is an advisory body established by the Board of Directors. Its mission is to make recommendations on the ENSTA's areas of development, in particular on the evolution of its training programs, in order to adapt them to the expectations of future graduates' employers.

Its members, as well as its chair, are appointed by the Board of Directors on the recommendation of the ENSTA Director General.

The Guidance and Development Council meets at least twice a year, at the initiative of its chair.
